Quick ups and downs in your weight can impact how tight your skin looks…

Not only is rapid weight gain more likely to result in stretch marks, but it’s also more likely to leave loose skin after losing the weight.

Given enough time, the appearance of loose or wrinkly skin can diminish. However, rapid weight loss may not allow the skin time to slowly resume to normal. This is yet another argument for losing fat slowly and steadily.

Quick weight loss in the initial weeks of a diet is not unusual and doesn't appear harmful on any level. But trying to sustain high rates of weight loss for many weeks or months may increase risk of being left with loose skin.

The most common recommendation for sustained weight loss without undesirable side effects is 1 to 2 pounds per week or up to 1% of total body weight (the heavier you are the more weight you can safely lose).

How much your loose skin will tighten up after weight loss may depend on age, lifestyle, genetics, sun exposure, smoking, and nutrition among other variables.

In For Statera we can coach you about how to diminish the risk of getting loose skin and how to make you look the best with what you have. Ask us!
